Moving to Norway - HELP ON LOCATION?

Travel Info
I plan on moving to Norway, for the weather fits my needs superbly there and I really like the culture. As for which city to move to is where I have the most trouble.

Ideally, I'd like the following:

A small city (less then 150,000 people) in which everything is nice and small, peaceful and relaxing. Everything is in walking distance (i.e schools, grocery store, etc.). The downtown area, which although small, is thriving, would be quite close, maybe a five to ten minute drive.

An area I could compare it to is Whitby, Ontario (Canada). My relatives live in a neighbourhood which is tight-knit and everybody knows each other. Five minute drive away is their downtown, and although small, it serves its purpose and proves to be useful. If you go a further five-ten minutes there's a plaza with a movie theatre which is surrounded by restaraunts.

So all-in-all, I'd like a place which is small and peaceful, but has a thriving downtown nearby in case I need something to do.

Travel Tips
Trondheim or Kristiansand? Kristiansand is about half the size of Trondheim.

http://www.trondheim.com/engelsk/... will give you a lot of details about the city.

Trondheim is on the west coast and is Norway's third largest city with a population of about 160,000 -- it has a university so about 20,000 of those are students. My old boyfriend was from there and I loved visiting. It has a lot of cultural things going on and is a nice paced city. There's also smaller towns in the region that would be nice to live in and have Trondheim close by. I don't remember their names.

i would strongly reccomend Stavanger. it is the capital of petrol... but not a very big city. Everything is within walking distance and there are many things to do or see.
It will be the European capital of culture in 2008 (just for you to make an idea of what sort of city it is). Considering Norway's population is not very big, Stavanger doesnt have too many people that live there.
Good luck on ur search!
lived in Stavanger for 3 months!
