Am I eligible for an EU passport? |
Travel Info My mother was born in Germany, and lived there until she came to Australia at 3 years of age. Her mother was from Latvia. Am I eligible to receive and EU passport, and if so how do I do this? Thanks for your help :-) Travel Tips First of all, there is no such thing as EU passport. All the member states have their own passports, which look pretty the same, but there is no such thing as EU passport (although there is citizenship of EU - which comes with the citizenship of a member country). You can get a passport of a EU member state country only if you are a citizen of it. But the demands for applying for it very from each state. So my best advice to you is, go to the Embassy of one of the countries (your best pick would probably be Germany) and ask for further info. Good luck Others no, germany does not allow dual citzenship (assuming that you have single citzenship to australia.) unless you want to deny australian citizenship. oh and you cant get a passport of a country unless you are a citzen no unless you were born in germany or another country...then u can have dual citizenship. but not if u were born in australia. but just to be sure u can call the german embassy in australia...u never know. but its highly unlikely. First it depends on if your mother was a citizen. Different countries have different rules. For instance, if you were born before 86 and one of your parents are British you can sometimes get a EU passport... I don't know Germany's rules but that's something you would have to look into. I don't think you can have dual citizenship unless you were born there. I was born there and have dual citizenship in Germany and the US, though if I had to, I would deny my US citizenship in a heartbeat. |
