Travel Info Specifically, do hotels, restaurants, and attractions have ramps or elevators, and do sidewalks have cut-outs? How easy is it for a person in a wheelchair to get around town? I welcome any other thoughts and any websites or guidebooks that might be of assistance to me.
Thanks.
Travel Tips
you will be very restricted as to what you can do in france and italy if you are in a wheel chair. most of the attractions are very, very old and have only small staircases. there are alot or stairs, especially in italy but im sure that you could have a good vacation still, just a very restricted one. will even be restriced to which hotels you will be able to stay in( not so bad in realy touristy places in these countries) and the restaurents that you can eat in. some of the churches have steps even to get in and out of the main doors but some of them don't and you jsut wouldnt be able to go up the chapel. transportation could also be difficult because of the very crowded streets, walkways and trains. they are making some of the busses wheelchair accessable now so and some of the more modern attractions most likely have access as well. when i was over there i was not checkin for wheelchair accesability, but from what i can remember, there are a lot of stairs and travelling around can be difficult. i don't want to scare you out of going because it is very possible that i just missed some of the ramps and such. im sorry that i can not be of much help with suggestions but i just dont know what its like to be in a wheel chair. i have taken advantage of being able to walk so i dont know what you can and cannot do but best of luck to you and i hope that you can still really enjoy your holiday! |
