Oh my gosh, yes, my mother is from that region, born before it was given to Romania. She was born in a small village called Erdod, just out of Szatmar, Romanians call it Satu Mare. Anyway, vineyards, peasant villages, farms, hills and mountains abound. It is clean, beautiful and be ready to eat and drink your way through this region. It is eclectic, in that it is mostly Hungarian, mixed with Romanian gypsy folk. Dress down, get out your hiking boots, and very simple clothing. Take small things as gifts, like chocolate, or baseball caps as gifts to your hosts.Enjoy the music, learn to dance, keep an eye on your personal belongings whereever you travel in the world. Your money and passport should always be in your front pocket, and not in a wallet which would be easy to take. Always remember, you are a foreigner, a guest and in spite of the general niceties from most people, there are a few who would love to take advantage of you! Have fun while you are there, it is a wonderful experience.

lovely fresh blood enjoy your hol best wishes D.R. acula.
In my opinion, Transylvania is the cleanest and most beautiful part of Romania...don't miss Bran castle (famous for the Dracula myth - but there is no real mention of Dracula, or Vlad Tepes the historical figure on whom the myth is based upon on the walls or placards of the castle - the only reference you'll see is at the souvenir stalls) or the city of Brasov (including Poina Brasov) with its black church (UNESCO site). Also about 1/2 hour south of Brasov is the city of Sinaia, another great mountain resort area where you can see Peles Castle, a magnificent piece of European architecture. Sibiu is also worth visiting as it is at the foot of the Fagaras Mountains which has a glacier lake high up nestled among the peaks - worth the drive up - there is even a cabin that offers overnight accommodation (open all year round). The trip from Bucharest to all these places is equally breath-taking as you go through the Prahova Valley. Believe me you're going to love it - You'll get to see the best Romania has to offer!
