What country came first, Ukraine or Russia? |

As a matter of fact, Ukraine means "the land at the side of (Russia)" However, the land that is currently occupied by Ukraine is the origin of all Russian lands. In other words, Russia came first, but was mostly located at where Ukraine is today (that was 1000 years ago). The population has later moved to the East and much of the original land was under the rule of Poland/Turks. Still later, (about 300 years ago) The land of the modern Ukraine was colonized by people from Russia (mostly runaway serfs) plus some original population. Ukraine as a country got recognized 300 years ago, but quickly joined with Russia for protection.
