What to do with old French money? |
Travel Info I am studying in London and my family recently came across some old french money and sent it to me. I took it to the bureau de change and they told me that the only way to get anything for it would be to do it at a bank in France. I have already been to France this semester and probably won't be back? Do I have any other options? Travel Tips You may have already missed the deadlines for exchanging some banknotes. For those which can still be redeemed one can use refgistered mail to do so. Please refer to this webpage: http://www.banque-france.fr/gb/instit/bi... Others if they are old a coin dealer may be interested...other than that ebay Save it or deposit it in your account. It might take a while but eventually they'll get the exchange rate and credit your account. Assuming is is not a lot of money, check with the nearby international airport. Charities often have donation boxes in airports and you can put any currency in them for a good cause. You can also mail the cash to a charity in France. Save it!! Its always great to have a bit of money from another country. I find change all the time from different country's that I may never see at all. I love to find stuff like that. If you dont want to keep it give it to someone who wants it and if its old money its better to keep it then spend it. Maybe a travel agent can change it for you, or tell you who could. I don't know how much money it is. You could either keep it...it would be nice to show your kids or gandkids French money one day OR like someone already mentioned you could go to an international airport and donate it. When I travel, I usually donate the extra coins I have in my pocket. |
