Has France Retained Much of its Culture?

Travel Info
Does France have any cultural practices in daily life that sets it apart from other European nations in MODERN times.

(I realize that this is technically cultural, so it's not exactly a "travel" question, but I'd appreciate it if people would be mature and answer the question. Last time I posted a question about France, nobody answered it, they just complained about how it wasn't exactly "fit" for the category and THEN reported the question... If you don't have an answer, then don't answer! I'm not interested in knowing who the biggest French whiners are.)

Thanks to those willing to answer.

Travel Tips
Other ideas from a French guy:

There's something which is typical in France: "bistrot(s)", bar(s) in the village in the countryside, or in city districts. Many people go there to have a drink (coffee, beer or wine) often alone, and spend hours and hours speaking together. When you see it and listen to it, you have a miniature of France. You can see every social ranks, every ages... and alcohol helping, you come to "la conversation de comptoir" (conversation of counter), it's "highly philosophic", you do again the world... Interesting and funny!

Another thing, it's that French are very linked with their native soil, their gastronomy... (cheese, wine, agricultural products). In France, we say that everybody has a farmer in its close genealogy.

Strikes, social fighting, public services are in French culture too.

We are always late, it's cold "le quart d'heure de politesse" (the quarter of courtesy). It's worse to come at a dating before the clock, always this quart d'heure de politesse in order to ensure all is ready.

I totally agree with kisses (it's a lack for me in America).

Add the fact that each region in France, due to its history, has its own culture with some characteristics.
Others
Well we still have a great interest in bread with our baguette, croissants, pain au chocolat. It is very cultural.

Well French people like to demonstrate like no other people. First we demonstrate then we negociate. The way around would be better though.

Maybe one that I haven't seen in a lot of countries is the kiss when you wake up and meet your parents ( it can go from 2 to 4 kisses on the cheeks ). We do the same when seeing friends ( mostly girls with girls / boys with girls ) and when saying good nignt. Everyday we do this.Boys with boys will shake hands.
And French aren't whinners
I agree with kisses....;) good habit isn't it...french people are more used to touch than american I think.

Some further ideas :

- we like to have great lunch...especially meat, cheese, ....
- many french people like to drink wine, but less than before...
- some french people are mad with football (wht you call soccer)
- many french people like also take care of their own garden...
I'm french
The French people doing their best to protect
their way of life especially ,their language.
France is beautiful country and the French
are very wonderful people.
J'Aime La France~~
