Will my english TV work in France?

Travel Info
I'm moving to france soon and wondering if my the TV I bought here will work there???

Travel Tips
As far as the electricity is concerned, no problem but you will need an adapter for use with French power sockets.

As for over the air transmissions are concerned:
1) for analogue reception, only if it is multi-standard including Secam-L. Some of the very top of the range models are. You have to go into the set-up menu to change the settings.

2) If it has a built-in digital tuner (for receiveing Freeview in the UK) it will get the French digital channels if the area you move to has them (currently 65% of the country) and you have a reasonable aerial. Note that older aerial connectors use a slightly smaller diameter plug (9mm in France, 9.5 mm in the UK), but newer equipment has moved over to the 9.5 mm standard. Shouldn't be much of a problem - the French aerial plug will be a tiny bit loose.

3) Otherwise, you can use it with a French DTT (Freeview) adapter (called TNT over here) plugged into its SCART connector - assuming it has one.
I know of one or two TNT boxes that can output RF compatible with a UK TV (that's if you don't want to use SCART). One is manufactured by Sagem the other by Neotion. You have to go into menus to change the settings - but you need to be able to see the picture to go into the menus.

4) You can also use it with a cable, satellite or IPTV box (such as Freebox, Livebox, Alice-Box) or DVD player plugged into the SCART connector.

Note that SCART is the universal way of connecting boxes to each other in France. Very few have RF modulators.

Note for the following answer, Spain uses Pal B/G for its analogue TV, which is very close to the UK system of Pal I.
French Secam L is VERY different.
But he is right, a Sky box will work (as will a DVD player, cable box, IPTV box etc).

the machine will work, but you have to make sure the plug is suitable for the french electricity socket. you can probably buy an multi-use adapter so that you can plug in your english tv to that. the english plug is different to the french one. check that.
im sure it will be fine, just buy one of those 3 plug to 2 plug adapters, i think they use them in france anyway
To my knowledge no, they have different plugs(outlets) then us.{:-)}
Not to receive French stations. They use SECAM and not PAL.
probably not, they use a system called Secam whereas we use Pal. Of course all this my have changed with the advent of DigitalTV.
You'll need a very long aerial extension or you will need to learn french.
