What was the route the german imagrants took to america? |

Today Bremerhaven has a museum of emigration (see link below for information in English). I think the sea route took them to New York where they arrived on Ellis Island. By 1900, the cities of Cleveland, Milwaukee, Hoboken and Cincinnati were all over 40% German. Dubuque and Davenport Iowa had even larger proportions. The Over-the-Rhine neighborhood in Cincinnati was one of the largest German-American cultural centers. In many other cities, such as Fort Wayne, Indiana, Richmond, Virginia, German Americans were at least 30% of the population.
