Anyone know abou the town named Verashav? |
Travel Info My great-great-grandparents came from a town named Verashav on the Polish-German boarder. Does anyone know where this is specifically? What is the main language? What is its current name, etc? Travel Tips Sorry, I have never heard a town in Germany with that name - and I also couldn't find any town with that name on my Yahoo search, neither....Please, assure that you have the correct town's name - otherwise, nobody would be able to help you. Greetings from Germany... ----- I think that "Nekkra" might be right. And the German name for Warsaw is "Warschau". Others The only thing I can think of is Warsaw (spelled Warszawa) Poland, but that is pretty far inside Poland. Of course, during the war, it wasn't very far from the German border. *Edit* In Europe, especially former eastern block countries, the letter W is pronounced as the letter V. So translating the spoken word Warszawa could easily be understood as Verashav. He says "great-great-grandparents", so we are talking about going back at least 100 years in history.I just looked up Warsaw on e pre-WWI-map, and its still about 200-300 km from the border, so i don't think its the town hes looking for, sorry Nekkra. |
