Travel Tips
your best bet for cheap accomodation in Germany is Youth Hostels. Youth hostels were born in Germany and can be very cost-effective. I've stayed recently for as little as 12 Euro a night. It's a shared room, but with somewhere to store your stuff. Most provide a way for older folks to come in late (some, like in Berlin, allow for return all night), and they do cater to "youth" who are a bit less traditional - there is a discount for example for "youth" over the age of 60 or so. In Bavaria (where Nuremburg is) you must be 26 or under, alas. Source(s): http://www.jugendherberge.de/en/...

Germany's a big place. It would help if you were a bit more specific as to your destination.
Germany is a big country, depends on where you want to stay.

A good place to look for proper hotels is
http://www.hotel.de
They are normally cheaper rates than you'd get on other websites. If all you need is basic accommodation you could also stay at a formula one hotel or an etap hotel, the first is the cheaper with shared facilities, the latter has a functional, if not very pretty room.

*Edit* Just noticed there isn't a formula 1 in N眉rnberg.
A place to check is the "Reise" section on ebay.de (if you speak some German).

What you are looking for is a Ferienwohnung (holiday vacation flat or home), FeWo for short. Most of them rent for 7 days from Saturday to Saturday, but in the off-season you'll definitely will be able to find owners who are willing to rent for 10 days. In the high season you will be asked to rent for 14 days.

A Ferienwohnung is the cheapest way for families to go on holiday, there are houses available for rent that sleep up to 10 people.

You can also contact the tourist information center in N眉rnberg or the tourist agency for Bavaria, they should be able to provide you with information and adresses where you can book. It is best to narrow it down to a very specific area, as Ferienwohungen are very plentiful in Germany.

If you want to be near the Grafenw枚hr/Vilseck US Army training area, I recommend that you look for places around Weiden in der Oberpfalz. "National Park Bayrischer Wald" is also a good indicator that the place is relatively near. Use google maps or a detailed map of Bavaria to look for suitable villages.

BTW, the site http://www.bayern.by/en/index.html... allows you to search for holiday appartments - the region you want is Franconia.
