In the long run, Britain lost that war as well, the cost meant the end of Empire and the end of the longest period of peace. But Germany lost because of early over extension, picking a fight with the largest naval power and most capable air force that early was a dire mistake. Had they waited and attempted to build up their forces using their superior industrial ability and overtake us they would have battered us.
