There are so many beautiful places - it depends what you are into.

Munich or Berlin is what most of my world travelling friends have told me. If you go to Munich say hi to the guys at Mike's Bike Shop.
Koeln (Cologne) and Bonn, the former capital of West Germany, both on the Rhein (Rhine) close to each other, and the nearby Rhein and Mosel Valleys.

Koeln has a great and beautiful Cathedral, which took 500 years to build and was the world's tallest building when it was finished in 1870, until the Eiffel Tower was built.

Bonn is a charming small city with the Beethoven Haus, where he used to live.

At Koblenz, south of Bonn, the rivers Rhein and Mosel come together at a confluence called the Deutches Eck, with its military statue and memorial, and a view over the river to a great anti-Napoleonic fort. From Koblenz you can travel, by boat, road or rail, up the picturesque, steep, wooded valleys of the Rhein and Mosel. Both valleys are filled with historical castles and sites of legends.

The best one to look around is called Burg Eltz, near Cochem on the Mosel. Fantastic.

It all depends what you are interested in - mountains, cities, museums, beach, history, etc.

A good introduction to Germany offers http://www.germany-tourism.de/ in combination with wikipedia (you look up the sights the German tourism site mentions) and the official website of the cities and regions you are interested in.
The best place has to be Munich. If you're located in central Munich, you've got great landmarks and points of interest all around you - The "English" Gardens, Marienplatz, Kaufingestrasse etc. (A quick Google search will give you more information about any of these). There's also plenty more to see in every direction around Munich - you have the most amazing lakes and mountains as well as some truly astonishing castles built by the (mad) King Ludwig II, such as the exquisite Schloss Neuschwanstein (Schloss Linderhof is better decorated from the interior, however). If you go towards the Austrian boundary, there's also a brilliant salt factory where they show you how salt is mined (I've forgotten the name, though, but it's near a place called Bad Reichenhall)
