Travel Info What place(s) of interest can I see in Bielefeld, Germany if I only have 6 hours? Travel Tips The old town is nice to stroll through and has decent shopping opportunities. There's also the theater which is a nice building near the old town. Then there's the ruins of the castle Sparrenberg. It's up on a hill not far from the old town. It's a pleasant walk. There's also several museums and a zoo. I'd recommend going to the information center located in the old town and looking at the different brochures they have. If you need any help in translating.....just ask (I speak german) Oh my, that's a hard one. Did you know that Bielefeld is the subject of an old joke throughout Germany? Because nobody can think of anything extraordinary as far as Bielefeld is concerned, the claim is that the city doesn't actually exist but people have made it up. Apparently, Bielefeld city officials think otherwise. They have compiled a list of local "attractions" http://www.bielefeld.de/en/ti1/... BTW: It's a student town, so you can always just go for a stroll in the centre, enjoy the caf茅s and do some shopping. I've actually been there - so I guess it does exist. Where do you start and leave, at the train station? Besides shopping and the old town you can also climb up to Sparrenburg castle then. Take tram/underground lines 1 or 2 to station "Landgericht" and then follow the small street right ahead. You have a nice overall view from the top or even from the tower. Entering the castle is free, climbing the tower is 1 or 2 Euro. If you prefer a nice but small zoo take any tram to "Jahnplatz" and then bus line 24 to the direction of Dornberg, station "Tierpark". It's free, too. |
