Why do Patels only marry other Patels?

Do they consider themselves better than everyone else or something? I know a Patel family that treated a Rathore family like they were Dalits because their boy was in love with a Rothore girl. Who do these Patels think they are? Last I checked Rothores are the highest caste anybody can be in India. Stupid Patels.

Its a system in India and it is not a bull as opined by someone. This is something that has evolved over the ages and suits Indian society.

Even in so called developed societies, people will marry in a eqaul family only. They do not generally marry into the family which do not have social status. They consider job, money and social status of the prospective partner before deciding. The same is happening in this cases, so do not get carried away by paranoid thinking.

it's called class status, no family likes to give there child to a person or family that is a 'lower class'. complete bull if you ask me, but thats what they do!

interesting!! so the patels think they are better than others..who are the patels? and who is the rothores? : \.. who made these rules? i want to know more about the patels. i wonder what i would do if i ran across one..
"Castism" is against the law in india now and it should be because it's wrong and you cant judge an entire group of people based on the actions of a few...that's ridiculous. In some countries stuff like that still goes on like in some parts of africa a guy has to marry a girl from the same village and stuff or alot of muslims have to marry a relative but not all...but let them if they so choose to. Why does it bother you so much? Please don't call an entire group of people "dumb" just because a few are like that...any group/race/culture will have SOME people who make the rest look bad. But each family is different and alot of the ones i know wont marry someone with the same last name because you could be related or because they are more modern now and alot of people dont have those old beliefs anymore. You're talking about one particular family you knew...dont let that make you think all are the same. It was wrong for that family to treat the other family like they are beneath them...AND it's not right for you to assume that everyone from that particular group is the same way (you become no better than those haters if you allow yourself to have hatred/ill feelings towards an entire group). Who cares who is the highest or lowest caste...it's the year 2007...how about we all just act human and serve God...that's the reason he put us here in the first place not to hate on each other.
