It's a slang used by teenagers in North India. Used when someone fails to do something correctly. Like if someone is telling a joke in class and no one laughs you say ' uski popat ho gai '. It is used in such similar situations. Basically when one is embarrassed in front of others. Hope this helps.

but thanks to our bolywood movies this word has lost its actual meaning... Now days POPAT is used for someone stupid.

In some movies POPAT word is also used to indicate towards male genitals..lol..its ture
