Tips for first time travel to India? |
Travel Info One of my good friends is going to India for few months or so for work and travel. Having never been there and not knowing anyone in our circle who has, I ask the Yahoo answer community for any suggestions/advice of what to be careful or watch out for a single mid 20s single female. I've heard some scary things. Travel Tips Hi there I had earlier answered a similar question (got a Best answer too) - you can go through it. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;... I hope your friend enjoys his/her stay in India Others Girls should stay away from public transportation. The male riders will get grabby with American women. The same universal rule Don't get friendly with strangers. Wear decent clothes, what is acceptable in your country may not be in India. You don't have to be covered from head to toe but don't venture out in see through stuff. No swim wear on beaches unless it is a private one at a resort. Eat at decent joints so there will be no fear of chatching a bug. Carry your own water. Crowded places our the safest bet, don't go on a trek alone. Don't carry too much money around. India is a big place for bargaining, but do take someone reliable from your work circle when you want to shop. You might get cheated otherwise. While shopping don't show interest in something you like, once the guy knows you like something he'll hike up the price. If something is priced at Rs100, you qoute Rs50, this way you'll buy the stuff at Rs70 - 75. State Emporias and some stores have fixed prices. Beware of pick pockets and cheats. Do you mean scarry things don't happen elsewhere in the world to a single female of mid 20s who is travelling alone? I think any young lady takes some common precausions while travelling alone in any part of the world. Some learn Martial Art, some carry pepper spray. Other than that you might take precausions about water bourn disease by drinking bottled water and avoiding adventures street food. But remember, nearly a billion Indians are still alive by drinking and eating normally in this land. Since your friend will have some work too, I think her work friends will guide her once she is in India. Don't worry too much...let her come and enjoy the Indian experience Its a great country. Nothing to worry Model http://www.incredibleindia.org/...... |
