Travel Info My kid will go to Limerick next July with school. Can one tell me more about this town .thanks? Travel Tips City or county? Limerick City is the main town in Co. Limerick. It is situated on the mouth of Ireland's longest river the Shannon, and is in the southwest of hte country. Don't listen to any of the nonsense about Limerick, like any city there are undesirable elements, but most people have no hassle there, the troublemakers generally keep to themselves, crime is no more or less of a problem than in any other city. I spent several years there as a student and enjoyed it, never had any hassle. The sports centre at UL is fantastic. The shopping and cinema facilities are fairly good. It is also the site of King John's Castle and the Treaty of Limerick plus the Treaty Stone on which the Treaty was signed. Plus the People's Park, which is a lovely peaceful place for a stroll. It is a great, historic city and I hope your kid has a great time here. Others My Mum lives not far away from there always seems nice. Dont know much about it for kids.Sorry www.visitlimerick.com There once was a town on the Shannon which was famous for bacon and ham n' a funny wee rhyme with only five lines I wonder if it's got a cannon. Its not a town! It's a county. http://www.limerick.ie/ It's a county in south west Ireland....There is also a city, the main city of the county, also named Limerick. It is known colloquially as 'Stab City' as it is renowned for drugs and stabbings. Although it is a lovely place and never let this name put you off allowing your kid to go. It has lovely sights, mountains and little country towns. |
