Which is a better place to live in: Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland?

Travel Info
Considering crossing the pond to live and work, your opinions would be of great worth to me, thanks Zen

Travel Tips
Thank you for having the courtesy to not use the term 'Southern Ireland'.

There are advantages and disadvantages to both parts of the island. The economy in the Republic is much stronger and thus there are more jobs and higher salaries, but this leads to high costs of living too, especially accommodation. The currency is the euro.

A very large percentage of people in Northern Ireland work in the public service, indicating a weak economy. It can only improve though, now that the nonsense has stopped. Prices would be lower in Northern Ireland and they use sterling as they are part of the UK.

Depending on your priorities, either place would be good to work in. Good luck.

I lived in ROI for 5 years and I love it, it is a beautiful country but NI is beautiful too and it has changed a lot in the past few years so as long as you as aware of the areas to avoid either place would be a good choice.
Personally for me though I would prefer ROI but that is only because I love Southern Ireland and I do have family in Dublin and Wexford
I am from Northern Ireland (or as we say Norn Iron) and it is a wonderful place to live. One vote for the North :) We have the Antrim Coast Road which is one fo the most beautiful places in the world - giants casueway, loads of pubs etc - as with everywhere else there are good parts and bad - just look around and check the area out first.

good luck
Oh what a nasty question and you could dig up a huge can of worms here !! Anyway I lived in both parts and it's all the same. If you like living in an urban area live in one of the cities like Dublin, Belfast, Galway etc. The only thing is if you dont want the hassle of getting a new social security number, bank etc stay in the north. The currency is different but with the exchange rate at the moment it'll work out well if you move south. Theres pros and cons for each place. Enjoy whatever you do
I am from the Republic, but I will admit there pros's and cons to living in the Republic and Northern Ireland. The advantage to the Republic is that we are in the Euro , which is great for European and US trade. Also , the Republic , in the last few years has become one of the richest countries in Europe per ca-pita ,over northern Ireland. It is also a quiet area , with in general no real problems with troubles.
The North though is a cheaper place to buy a house, the health service is better than the Republic and buying cars is cheaper.
Do a bit more research , but I would have to be bias and say the South.

Good Luck, Tony
I live and work in Northern Ireland but used to live and work in the Republic. I was much happier there - just a much more relaxed place to be. I hate Belfast as a city - much prefer Dublin, Galway or some of the large towns in the Republic. House prices have rocketed in the North too. Why dont you apply for jobs BEFORE you come to either country and go where you get the work - let that make the decision for you as there are pros and cons for both places.
