I am visiting Ireland soon. Do Irish people dislike americans?

Travel Info
I have dreamt of going to Ireland for many years now. It is something i am sure that i have thought about everyday for the last 10 years. I know that most of the rest of the world dislikes americans and i was wondering about Ireland. I will be visiting by myself.

Travel Tips
Irish people are very welcoming, probably the most welcoming nation in Europe. For those people such as "RiverClarin" that claim that most Irish people do not want to admit to the faults and bad points about modern Ireland I would say to them...grow up and be realistic...Ireland has not got its image directly from Irish people not admiting our downfalls but from the reaction and welcome visitors get no matter what part of the world they are from...

No Irish teenagers do not all go irish dancing and sing traditional songs but show me a country that has teenagers that do follow the traditional way of life! When the country changes then it perception will too so there is some truth in the shamrocks and clovers idea, and whats so bad with wanted to keep a tradition going and stand out from the crowd...Although I am Irish, I live in London and it has thought me to appreciate and love Ireland and the Irish for everything that they are, good and bad...Please do go to Ireland... you will not be disappointed I promise, some of my suggestions for your visit are

Ring of Kerry
Dingle
Cobh
Shannon River
Visit a bog!
Visit a tradtional Irish pub when there is a session happening
Giants Causeway
Finally you have to Kiss the Blarney Stone!

Visit Dublin also but dont expect an authentic Irish experience because in my opinion every capital city is the same and does not reflect the country as a whole

Also visit Carlow, for no other reason than it where I come from, while your there pop down to Arklow and the meetings of the water, oh and see the Dolmen.

Trust me you will be more than welcome there and not just because you are american or any other nationality but because it is an innate trait that the people have there...

May the luck of the Irish be with you forever x

Irish Native!
A friend of mine just recently visited Ireland and said the people were incredibly friendly....he is American and said he was pleasantly surprised at how wonderful everyone was. So, have fun!
just to let you know go to a pub and ask for directions because if you ask the police its a mix of gailic and english
I was in Ireland a few weeks back, I am Irish but live in the US.

To be honest most Irish people will be very friendly and kind to you. I would advise you to steer clear of any conversation related to foreign policy.

Its just not worth it and thats when you can find some negative sentiment. Other than that all will be fine.
You'll be welcomed but don't be naive. Ireland is not the land of shamrock and shillelaghs that you might have read about!

The social lives of Irish teens and twenties revolve totally around alcohol. It's not enough for them to go and enjoy a few drinks, they have to get so drunk that they vomit and/or pass out. Don't be drawn into that sick culture.

Drugs such as cocaine and ecstacy are freely available in clubs, pubs and house-parties. Cities are unsafe when the drunken revellers spill out on the streets at 2 or 3 in the morning. Many young men carry knives and there have been quite a few late-night stabbings recently, some fatal.

Most Irish people don't want to admit all this, we still tend to paint our little country as the cosy, welcoming doorway to Europe. It was once but not anymore. Look after yourself when you come here. Keep away from rough areas and wild pubs and you'll have a great holiday!
Not at all, we're generally very friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately there is a type of American tourist that have a terrible reputation in Ireland mainly due to their ignorance. They tend to be older, travel in a group, wear plaid trousers (normally his n hers in matching green!!) and ask silly questions such as do we know their uncle bob he's from Cork too? As with any country, as long as you treat us with respect and dignity we'll reciprocate.
