I have booked a holiday in Ireland for this summer, we are travelling from Dublin to the Ring of Kerry.?

Travel Info
Can you tell me if we can use sterling or need to get our money altered to the Euro. is there plenty of "English" banks about, or anything we need to know.

Travel Tips
You need the Euro for Ireland, dearie. You can simply use your ATM card to draw money in Euro directly from your bank account.

And we speak English in Ireland. Better than most people in England, I might add.

If you're driving from Dublin to the Ring of Kerry, allow about 5-7 hours. The roads here are desperate compared to the motorways in England, but you're more than compensated by the landscape and the interesting small towns you will have to go through. You'll probably take the N7 through Limerick and on to Kerry, right? After Limerick there are major bottlenecks through Adare, Newcastle West, Abbeyfeale, and Castleisland. My advice is to either take the N69 (Coast Road) from Limerick to Tralee, and go on to Killarney from there, or factor in a meal stop in one of these places (I recommend Newcastle West, The Mallard is a particularly good restaurant, any of the local people you meet will tell you where it is).

If you're friendly to locals, they'll be friendly to you, help you out with directions ... their directions might not always be the clearest, but their intentions are usually the best. Source(s): I live in this area, I know the bottlenecks!
Have a lovely holiday.
Other Travel Tips
You can use all the ATM's but you will need Euro, most places will take sterling but they'll give you change as if it's from Euro so will be a total rip....

You'll have a fantastic time make sure you visit Dingle and drive around the penninsula and go through the Conor Pass, very high, a bit scary but a fantastic drive and scenery is breathtaking.
Ireland offiically uses the Euro but you can use USD and Sterling in some areas (probably not at the best rates compared to having changed it yourself). There are loads of places to change your currency, especially in the really touristy areas.

I use my credit card as much as possible since it will get the best exchange rates and I don't have to bother with cash except for incidentals.

It's a beautiful part of Ireland so enjoy.
You wont be able to use sterling. You have to change your money to Euro's. Any bank In Ireland will change your money but you may get better value in the U.K. Check it out first with the B..de change.. Enjoy your stay.. The sights are fantastic..
Would love to see what happens if you pay in sterling in a kerry pub, you would probably end up reinacting the ZED incident from pulp fiction out the back.
Bureau de Change, remember this word it might come in useful.
HI get euros! I live here I am actually english, to be honest you will be messing about in banks changing money! However saying that if you can't get euro you can change sterling at most banks over here. however they only hold a certain amount! Or you could use your debit or credit card to withdraw money in a cashpoint!
Have a nice time!
