Is it illegal to drink and drive in ireland? |
Travel Info cuz i wanna know... haha Travel Tips okay funny funny funny, yeah we're all alcoholics in Ireland.. but you should know that Ireland operates an almost zero tolerance policy to drink driving, you are allowed only 1 pint of beer, or 2 units of alcohol, so if you have just one whiskey , you are over the limit.. the garda (police force) here, take great satisfaction in catching people drink driving, it still happens all the time though, especially outside the cities where countryside folk regularly drive to the pub. but if you get caught, it is easy to lose your license.. I once worked with a guy who had a few pints after work one night and as he was about to drive home, he was stopped by a garda as he tried to start his car, he ended up spending the night in the police station, when they let him out the next morning, he went to collect his car and decided to have 1 pint to calm down.. the same garda who arrested him had followed him to the pub and caught him AGAIN !! he lost his license immediately!! Others If you have a car, it's probably illegal not to j/k I'm pretty sure it is. I remember going to a pub there and they had a breathalizer at the bar. The thing is that they had to deactivate it because people were using it as a contest to see how high they could blow. On the contrary. In Ireland, if a cop catches you driving sober, you get a ticket and a couple of drinks on the spot. What a country! no you are allowed drive no matter how drunk you are!! Seriously Ireland has one of the toughest anti drink and drive systems in the world, we spend millions alone on graphic tv advertisements. Get caught drinking and driving here and basically you are f**ked!! unless u are a LEPRECHAUN, then its ok Very much so...they have check points set up randomly. |
