Who has visited La Ceiba, Honduras and did you like it?

Travel Tips
I was there back in 1986, and my mom lived there for about 6 months. That is where my younger brother and sister were adopted from. Being that I was only 7 I really liked it. I'm not sure what it is like today, but I do remember cars didn't have mufflers, a ton of people and crowded streets.

We first stayed in a hotel, and that was too small for a family of five so an American nun who lived in La Ceiba let us live with her in the convent (she was the only one). We lived upstairs and the high school was downstairs. So not everyone is out to get you. The view of the mountains is really amazing and spectacular to see.

They have American food chains like McDonald's and Burger King (I think) and probably a bunch more now days. I enjoyed it, matter of fact I went to school at Mazapan (an American school) where all the subjects were taught in English and they had Spanish class. I made friends down there, got my hair cut, went to school with my friends, had a birthday (complete with a pinata).

So, I liked it. Source(s): Myself and my mom

Other Travel Tips
Yes. But I couldn't stay to long....
Incorecto all Latin American cities are fantastica, maybe ur lame or something.(for below me.)
It's the water that dosen't taste right and I'm not a Honduran!
Gangs are roaming the streets for trouble.
Theifs are ready to stab you, jack your wallet, and insult you. However, nothing like Los Angeles gangs.
Hurricane Mitch destroyed much of Honduras too.

La Ceiba itself is not very impressive, but it is the case of almost all Latin American cities. It is mainly useful as a transfer point to the islands of Utila and Roat谩n, or to nearby Garifuna villages (Corozal, Sambo Creek). The greatest attraction inside the city is a municipal railway, with a train - consisting of a huge engine and a converted box car without walls - running about every 30 minutes between the downtown and a western suburb.

Enjoy the trip!
My experience from January 2005 (see travelogue - http://railtrips.euweb.cz/c_hon_day4_en.... and pictures starting at http://railtrips.euweb.cz/c_hon_foto15_e... )
