Roatan Honduras? |
Travel Info any reccommodations for a rental house in the west bay area,good location to beach and restaruants, or any other location in that area. needed for two adults Travel Tips I travel to Central America about a month/year and last year spent February in Honduras. About half of my time was spent on Roatan (for diving of course) and I stayed in West Bay at a place called Monkey LaLa. It is in West Bay Village, which is really just the name of the land a very nice young couple owns that has 5 (maybe 6, don't remember) houses on it. It's at the very end of West Bay beach, has a dock for water taxis right at the beach, and was a very well maintained condo. The restaurants and bars (about three of each, good ones anyway) are at the other end of the beach but it's only a 10 minute walk which is very peaceful, safe and beautiful, and I very much liked being within walking distance to partying but out of ear-shot. If you're a diver, I would strongly recommend Bananarama as a dive operator. They are a PADI company, the boat is nice & big, and the dive masters are friendly and very accommodating to specific dive needs (as I have a couple myself). If you're looking for a fun afternoon find Ray on the beach, or ask locals where to find him (he floats around it seems). He is a very big black Honduran with a tattoo of the word "Miami" (where he lived for a few years) on one of his biceps. I went on a snorkeling & lunch tour with him and it was great because he isn't hired by tour resorts (so no soliciting) and is a local so he really knows his way around as well as the non-tourist-ridden spots close to West Bay, and his boat is reliable. He's a very friendly and funny man and I will look him up again the next time I return. Happy travels, if you haven't been to Honduras yet you will fall in love; I have!!!
