whenever there is a narrow piece of land which widens on each side its called an isthmus.

not sure...maybe it's called a:
1) Land bridge
2) Bridge of land
3) Intercontinental land mass or bridge
4) Straits

Technically its an Isthmus, though Panama is the only one thats truly called one.
