Honduras or Guatemala? |
Travel Info I am interested in traveling to either Guatemala or Honduras, which of the two do you think is a better place to visit and why? Travel Tips I'd choose Guatemala. Honduras' main tourist sites are Copan (Mayan ruins) and the Bay Islands (Caribbean beach resort). They are both spectacular, but they are not near each other. Transportation is difficult, and the weather is hot and steamy. Guatemala has much more to see, and you can choose a comfortable climate by choosing your elevation. Tikal's Mayan ruins are incredible, and located in the Peten jungle (lowlands). Lake Atitlan should not be missed. It is in the highlands, where the weather is perfect. Chichicstenango is good for a taste of a traditional Mayan market (Thursdays and Sundays). It is a good day trip from Lake Atitlan. Antigua is a good day trip, if you like 16th century Spanish colonial architecture. Check out the video section of http://www.atitlan.net . Other Travel Tips it depends what you want to get out of your trip. i havent been to either, but will be spending a week in guatemala this summer. apparently it doesnt have any decent beaches, but places like the tikal national park and lake atitlan more than make up for this. i suggest checking out the wikipedia.org and wikitravel.org articles for each country to see if they offer what you want in a vacation guatemala safer cleaner nicer................... Guatemala, i own a house over there..plus, people are friendly. I have been to Guatemala on vacation. I went to see the huge Mayan ruins at Tikal. You can stay right in the national park. It was AMAZING!!!!! You can hike to the top of one of the temples before sunrise. We did this, and watched the sun rise. At first, only the tops of the other temples were visible above the mists hovering over the rain forest, then, as the sun rose higher, the mists settled down into the forest, all the while, you could hear the howler monkeys in the trees.
