Travel Tips The parent and the child should go to the nearest US embassy with IDs and the child's birth certificate to apply for a passport. It will take some time to get this done. Depending on the age of the child, he/she may be allowed to fly back to the US with ID and a birth certificate, provided that one of the parents named on the certificate flies with him/her.
