Traveling to Buenos Aires. Best neighborhood to stay in or visit?

Travel Info
How far will my dollar go? What is there to do? Nightlife for a 29 yr old male? IF I want to sharpen my Tango skills what do you recommend? Find a dance studio there? Cost? Should I reserve the instructor in advance? Crime?

Travel Tips
Many neighborhoods to stay.
Barrio norte and Recoleta are very posh and pricey, but beautiful, chic and maybe you can find a cheap apartment to rent.

San Telmo is another place, around 15/20 minutes by bus from downtown.
Many tourist visit during the day, tango dancers on the streets, there you can find little hotels or bed & breakfast. not so safe to walk around alone during the night.

Avenida de Mayo, probably the most spanish inspired avenue in Buenos Aires, from there you can go anywhere, many buses, taxis and subway lines.

Buenos aires is beautiful, I was there two years ago and I loved it. People are gorgeous, food is excellent, and they have the best nightlife in the world, people go out at 2am! the city is very European, many things to see and explore.

I hope you enjoy it.
I want to go back soon!

It is a bit cheap if you stay off the tourist beaten path. It is not nearly as cheap as it was 2002-2004. Some of the more touristy restaurants ,eg Cabana Las Lilas, are more expensive in dollars today than when they had 1:1 against the dollar in 2001 and before.

There is plenty of nightlife from all night Discos to Irish Pubs to regular bars. You need to be more specific.

You can get a Tango teacher almost anywhere. I went to the Catalan Cultural Society who had a studio next door.
Check out this website i came across:

Stay in Recoleta. Easy walk to all the major sites and a great nightlife. If you have the coin stay at the Alvear Palace Hotel. FANTASTIC upscale place.
