Why does a large country like Argentina have no railway line?

Travel Tips
Argentina HAD, (key word: had!) one of the most extensive rail-lines in the world and the best in South-America. Built by the english from mid 1800's onwards and own them until 1955! Almost 50,000kilometers long!

After that they deteriorated in the hands of the corrupt governments of each period until 1991, when the new market oriented neoliberalism (!!!) decides Traind were Out!!!

And the line were either closed or sold to large companies for cargo traffic.

The ones remaining are in the hands of the unions and workers that DO not care about marketing and/or customer service.

The original idea (back in the 90's, as everywhere else) was that airplanes will be more efficient.

They DID not took into account Septe 11 and gas prices and pollution and etc.etc. etc.!!!!

mountains are too expensive to build through.
But we do we have not only Suburban trains connect Buenos Aires with the Greater Buenos Aires area, and more than 1.3 million people commute in-between the capital and outlining areas every week day. Most of the lines are electric, but there are several diesel powered. The Capital Buenos Aires is the only Argentine city with an underground system. Most of its lines connect the centre down town BA with areas within the city.. as well as intercity Railways, like the ones running from Buenos Aires to Mar Del Plata, Rosario, Tucuman and even Igua莽u Falls. Other Railway lines are from Bahia Blanco to Bariloche and we even have historic Railway lines like the Old Patagonia Express, in Esquel, South Argentina鈥︹€?and the list goes on. Bob Frassinetti
