Elementary school (primaria) has 7 grade levels: prescolar (which is like Kindergarten) through 6th grade. They'll start anytime after 4 years old. Most start around 6 in the rural areas.
High School (secundaria) has 5 grade levels, 1st through 5th year.
This amounts to 12 years of school, rather than the 13 that we have here in the US, including kindergarten.
