Anyone ever vacationed in Mexico, Central America or the Caribbean?

Travel Info
Where are some of the best places to go? I'm looking to go on a vacation for roughly 2 weeks sometime in the next year. I'm 25 and am not looking to party like crazy as much as I'm looking to explore and enjoy the different things to see.

Travel Tips
I have been to Costa Rica and found this country to be absolutely fabulous. There is a wide range of attractions. If you like beaches, they have black, white, yellow sand beaches. If you like the jungle... there is plenty of that...
if you like rivers, there are some to go rafting on.
The locals are super friendly and every place I went there was quite enjoyable. Whereever you end up going, I wish you a great time exploring.
Others
Check out Merida on the Yucatan. Very nice old city. You can do day trips to Mayan ruins.
You could visit the state of Oaxaca, Mexico, it has beautiful beaches and a wonderful culture. The only problem now is that there are some huge problems in Oaxaca and the State has becomed restless and unsafe for now. This problem might be over by December and you could visit then:
Beaches
-Puerto Escondido
-Huatulco
-Salina Cruz
-Zicatela
-Chacahua
-Puerto Angelito

-- In the City of Oaxaca (State's capital) you can visit:

- Monte Alban (amazing pyramids)
- Iglesia de Santo Domingo (really beautiful Church and there is also a museum which is really worth visiting too)
- Iglesia de la Soledad

-- A bit away from the capital, just hop on a bus and you can go to:
- El arbol del Tule (one of the biggest and oldest trees in the world, the local kids will gladly show you all the famous figures in the tree for a small tip)
- Mitla
- Hierve el Agua
- San Bartolo Coyotepec (Black pottery, Oaxaca is the State where it originated from, really beautiful)
------------------------------...
If you only have one week and don't mind not going to the beach you can visit the State of San Luis Potosi and neighboring cities:

You can spend a day or so in the city of San Luis Potosi (State capital) and then travel to "La Huasteca Potosina" where you can camp, visit some great waterfalls, swim, dive in "La Media Luna", hike and rapell down "El Sotano de las Golondrinas", visit some ancient ruins built in the jungle. Afterwards you can travel north to visit "Real De Catorce" (where the movie "The Mexican" was filmed) a trully magical town.
Tons of different things to do in this beautiful state, http://www.descubresanluispotosi.com/web...

Another great thing about SLP is its location, there are many different cities to visit that are just 2hrs away (driving) like Guanajuato, San Miguel de Allende, Queretaro, Zacatecas, Aguascalientes... so you can visit for the day and drive back to SLP to spend the night.
While in San Luis Potosi don't miss the chance to try the "Enchiladas Potosinas", "Tamales Huastecos", "zacahuil", "tunas" (a cactus fruit).

There are also many great Cities/States to visit like Puebla, Zacatecas, Jalisco, Veracruz, Oaxaca, Chiapas, and Yucatan (among others) Almost everywhere you go in Mexico you will find tourists, Mexico has great beaches but there are many other great places to visit besides them.
It's all about the Caribbean. We just got back from having our honeymoon throughout the islands.

The best place to go is Saint Thomas - the water is clear and it's overall a very clean and safe island with a lot of history.

There is an island about a mile off the coast of St. Thomas called Water Island (it's super small) - we took an awesome bike tour and it was interesting because during WWII the island was used as an army base - so there are tons of secret tunnels and whatnot.

Have fun!
You can try Dominican Republic... It's a very beautiful place, many things to do and the prices are very very low. You can find out more on Yahoo Travel. Good Luck!
St. Thomas was beautiful and don't miss St. John for all its' natural beauty. In Mexico were stayed in Cancun, party if you want to, beautiful beaches, visited many Mayan ruins. You will love the history behind their pyramids.....Friends loved Costa Rica, explored rain forests, saw interesting wildlife, beautiful scenery and waterfalls, so different than anything we can see in the states.....
I visited Kingston Jamaica, Cozumel Mexico, and the Cayman Islands 2 years ago and it was an amazing time. I was on Carnival's ship Victory. I definitely suggest cruising to your destinations. It makes getting in and out of countries MUCH easier. Just show your id provided by the cruise line to get on and off the ship and that's it! They have multiple excursions you can choose from and book ahead of time so that when you get on the ship they take it from there! It's much safer to travel this way as well. The tour guides make sure to take extra special care of the cruise tourists so that the cruise lines continue to do business with them. I took the Zion tour bus to nine mile Jamaica, the home of Bob Marley and was able to visit his grave. We drank rum punch and listened to his music on the way their and back. I just chilled on the beach most of the day in Mexico, but did a little four wheeling around the island before we left. I swam with stingrays in the cayman islands and fed them shrimp. I also went to a turtle farm and "hell" as they call it. It's dead coral that used to be covered by the ocean that has turned black. I have a lot of pictures from my trip if you would like me to email you some....Just let me know :) Better yet, I should just come with you and be your personal tour guide!
