Best place to visit in South America? |
Travel Info What is the best place to visit in South America? I am not looking for high rise buildings, i get enouph of that here in Beijing, China. Im looking for a country with culture and not much american precence. I want to be able to interact with the locals, i speak fluent Spanish. I also want to meet indegenous people, if possible. Any suggestions? Travel Tips im not so sure lindsay needs her head examined. dont listen to american propaganda. youre looking for a place with little american influence, so why would u want to listen to a baboon like josh who is clearly influenced by usa. if youre not a greedy capitalist, you have nothing to worry about. if you want to go to a place where people are respected, not only because theyre rich, then go to venezuela. id say skip costa rica, and go to cuba. thats another great place. Others venezuela. its got a good socialist govt with little american influence, and locals would probably be cool Skip South America and go to Costa Rica just up from Panama and Colombia. You won't be disappointed. Been there many times. Tell Lindsay Nelson she needs her head examined. Venezuela - NO WAY. In Venezuela you might get shot for trying to speak your mind. Just look at all the violence since Chavez shut down a television station enjoyed by most of Venezuela but had views that opposed his dictatorship. My aunt and uncle were stationed in Venezuela for 2 years with a telecommunication's company. They basically were held captive as prisoners as they could only "safely" travel between the compound they lived in and the place that they worked. They hated it. Oh and all that "oil money" that is supposedly being redirected to the poor by Chavez - take a look at the outrageous slums and destitution that is still ever so prevalent today in Venezuela. But if its South America that you crave - go to Carnival in Rio - woo hoo! That's Brazil. Who said I am an American or where does it say that I am influenced by USA propoganda? I have been to Cuba, its alright - no one would suggest Cuba for a person's first time to South/Central America or the Carribean for that matter. Its archaic, destitute and really not all that fun. I, like the person who asked this question, do not like the sky scraper high rises of Miami feeling either. I like the secluded beaches and local feel of Central and South America. By the way, I never ran into an American in Costa Rica. I saw a huge Bridgestone Tire factory (Japanese) as I came out of the San Jose Airport. But nothing really struck me as "American". Lots of European compounds and enclaves too. Oh and Canadians galore. Maybe you are confusing Canada with the US. Also, I have stated an "example" of someone's experience in Venezuela. I have also stated an "example" and fact of what is going on in Venezuela with the shutting down of a non-governmental television station that is not violent nor anti-Venezuelan. They were shut down because they simply have a different point of view than Chavez. Is that US propoganda? I like to use fact and experience to make a point. I would suggest the same.
