What is the most important place for the people in mexico city?

Travel Info
a. el Zocalo
b. Xochimilco
c. la Zona Rosa

Travel Tips
From the above options, I would say "El Z贸calo". The Z贸calo is a gathering place for political, social and cultural events. The three stages of Mexican history are represented there: Templo Mayor (aztec culture), Catedral (Colonial Mexico), and El Palacio de Gobierno (Independent M茅xico).

Xochimilco is a tourist trap, or a very weird "floating bar" for college students. Aside from these, the only important landmark is the biggest plant market. Nothing relevant there.

Zona Rosa was important in the 80's. All the "trendy" bars were there. Today you would only go there if you are looking for brothels, nasty bars, and a lot of hookers. Bad place to go in the night. You would probably get mugged. Source(s): Lived in Mexico City all my life.

You pick ---- I would say Zocalo
ZOCALO
A z贸calo is a central town square or plaza, usually located in Mexican cities. The most famous Z贸calo is that of Mexico City, which is formally known as the Plaza de la Constituci贸n, The government district of Mexico City is known after this. Z贸calos were often the original central squares of Mesoamerican cities that were coopted by the Spanish conquerors. The term z贸calo is related to the Italian zoccolo meaning pedestal or plinth. Both z贸calo and zoccolo ultimately derive from the Latin socc怒lus which is a dimunitive of another noun soccus meaning a type of clog. The modern English word "sock" shares a reflex with z贸calo, zoccolo and soccus.

It was in the Zocalo of Mexico City that Mexico pledged allegiance to the Spanish Constitution of 1812, called "The Cadiz Constitution". The square received the name of "Zocalo" because Antonio L贸pez de Santa Anna, president of Mexico, ordered a sculpture to commemorate Mexico's independence and put it in the middle of the town square. The statue was never finished and the only remnants of the work was the plinth which was to support it.

XOCHIMILCO
Xochimilco IPA: [so.t蕛i.藞mil.ko] (Nahuatl x贸chitl = flower; milli = cultivated field) is one of the sixteen delegaciones within Mexican Federal District. It is located south from Mexico City. To the north it has borders with Coyoac谩n, Tlalpan and Iztapalapa; to the west with Tl谩huac; and to the southeast with Milpa Alta. It covers an area of 122 km^2; it is the third biggest delegaci贸n.

Xochimilco is better known for its extended series of canals 鈥?all that remains of the ancient Lake Xochimilco. Xochimilco has kept its ancient traditions, even though its proximity to Mexico City influence that area to urbanize. Movies like Maria Candelaria (1940), have given that area a romantic reputation where all inhabitants travel in colourful trajineras (Xochimilco boats) between chinampas covered with flowers.

Today, agriculture is an important but minor activity -- the canals represent only a small fraction of their former extent. Chinamperia (chinampa-related activities) was declared a patrimony of humanity by UNESCO in 1987.

ZONA ROSA
This article is about Mexico City, for other uses read Zona Rosa (disambiguation)
The Zona Rosa (Pink Zone) is the name used to refer to a part of Colonia Juarez in the Cuauht茅moc borough of Mexico City on one side of Paseo de la Reforma. This part of Mexico City received its name because of the many buildings painted on wonderful shades of pink.

The area is roughly in bound by the Paseo de la Reforma, Insurgentes Avenue, Chapultepec Avenue, Florencia Street and the Paseo de Bucareli with signs properly marked to determine where the Zona Rosa is.

During the administration of President Porfirio Diaz, the neighborhood became an important suburb of Mexico City. The mansions (called "casas porfirianas") were built in Beaux-Arts architecture. During the time between 1891 and 1902 a trolley provided transportation from this area to Chapultepec.

In the 1950s the suburb became a business, commercial, social and tourist center. In the 1960s, art galleries were created with the support of artist and intellectuals such as Jos茅 Luis Cuevas and Guadalupe Amor and the area received many tourists during the 1968 Olympics. The cosmopolitan feature of the area attracted local and international visitors which encouraged the creation of hotels, nightclubs and restaurants as well as handicraft markets and antique stores.

Today the area is better known for encapsulating a big portion of the city's gay bars and restaurants; the "pink" in Pink Zone taking whole new meanings.
