I heard you have to pay like 30 dollars with a 500 deposit or something that you get back when you go back. But in the border state of Sonota they don't do this. Is this true??????!!!

Depends on how far you go into Mexico. Baja and most of Sonora are 'free zone' and there is no auto importation proceedure. Other parts of Mexico past Kilometer 21 you'll need to register your car at the coast of about $43. They do require you pay with a credit card ... but no deposit is requested
