Travel Info Do you need a passport or an id card to go to mexico by car? even if you dont come back to the USA? Travel Tips If you stick to the border area, or touristy areas... i dont think you do. BUT if you venture deeper into mexico.... yes you do. Source(s): just what i have been told Other Travel Tips What do you mean when you said," if you don't come back to the USA?" Are u passing through Mexico. The maximum amount of time allowed on a simple tourist visa is 6 mos, sometimes less. A passport is a great means of identification anywhere outside the USA. DO it right and apply for a passport even though one is not required at the moment. Of course you need a photo ID anywhere, like a State Drivers License or State ID card. Just to travel in Mexico, as a non citizen you will need proof of country of origin and foto id. A passport is ideal. However your birth and/or baptismal certificates combined with a valid driver's license is sufficient, provided that you are from a first world country like the U.S., Canada, or most of Europe. If you travel outside the border areas, you will also need a tourist visa that can be obtained either at the border or at Mexican customs (migracion) when you get off the plane or boat. Make sure you have all of your identification and tourist visa with you at all times. Unlike the U.S.A., Mexico has strictly enforced immigration laws. |
