What documents are required to travel to Mexico by land?

Travel Info
I am traveling to San Deigo in a few weeks and would like take a day trip to Tijuana. I know a passport is not yet required, but what is?

Travel Tips
U.S. driver's license Source(s): Was in Tijuana on sat. Live in San Diego

Other Travel Tips
i believe a birth certificate, social security card, and government id.
Carry at least a government issued ID. Passports will not be required until next year. To be safe you can carry a birth certificate.
At the moment nothing. It might be wise to have your U.S. driver's license or voter's card.
If your sure you do not need a passport then you may get in just showing your birth certificate (state) & drivers license....maybe....maybe not...I went to Mexico last year but I went way down near Cancun....was able to use the items mentioned above....but now a passport is required to go back...so who really knows for sure....
