Brought truck over border to Mexico, had to buy insurance.? |
Travel Info But after driving to my destination I could find no trace of any insurance which I had to give immigration at the border, it was for 12 months. How can I drive around without it? Also I have to drive back to the border to renew my 6 monthly permit to use it in Mexico. Who can tell me if it is possible to get a Mx. license - I am FM 2 resident, American Citizen. Please help, need your advice. Travel Tips First issue. Article 14, paragraph 4 of the motor vehicle code of Mexico states that if you have a FM2 or FM3, your temporarily imported vehicle is allowed circulation as long as you are in the country with the work visa. Keep a copy of your FM2 with you at all times as well as a copy of the law in Spanish for the police to read. Furthermore, if there were a question, The only authorities that could take your vehicle from you would be Aduana, or Hacienda. Second issue. Insurance. You probably got your insurance from Sanborn's. Here's their number. They're very friendly In Laredo Texas (956)723-3657 I can't find their Mexican number, sorry. Mexican law does not require that you have insurance. I've driven without it for 3 of my 4 years living here in Toluca, Mexico. Minor mishaps have been settled in a friendly manner by the side of the road. I don't however advise it. Third issue. The Mexican license. You don't need one if you have a valid American one, but if you want one, they'll give you one w/o a test as long as you can show your American one. Don't let the police try to get money from you because they tell you that you need one. It isn't true. Tell them no, and they'll move on to the next "mark". I have included a link that backs up what I'm telling you. In addition the link has a lot of other great info. Good Luck! Rob Source(s): http://rollybrook.com/living_in_mexico.h... Other Travel Tips You don't have to show insurance to immigration for your visa or banjercito when you register your car. If you have an FM2 or FM3 you don't need to cross the border for anything. Your visa is good for a year and your auto permit is good as long as your visa. As far as getting a copy of your insurance ... contact the broker you bought it thru. I can download a copy of mine on-line -------------------- Second thought ... you are actually on an FMT (tourist) and are also quite confused http://sparks-mexico.com/ |
