Is it possible to buy a Blackberry Pearl from the U.S. & have it work in Mexico on Mx Telcel or other service? |
Travel Info I was told a Sprint phone would work in Mexico, and that was wrong. It just flat doesn't. The card inside is different or at least that is what the Mexico cell phone companies say. So that phone purchase was trashed. They have Blackberries here, but they are incredibly expensive. Wondered if buying one in the U.S. was an option. I live here, so I want a phone that works with a company here in Mexico- I realize there are now some international cell services based in the U.S., but I'm looking for just the hardware, and to have it activated here in Mexico. Make sense? Travel Tips ok, does it really matter? because buying a phone here without a plan is SUPER expensive. the blackberry is over 700 bucks or something! i got my for 350 and that was WITH a 2 year agreement! lets say you do buy one and it works in mexico. now what are you going to DO with it?? getting a plan to use internet on your phone in mexico is BEYOND expensive! it's crazy! and email? you need internet for that. MSN or AOL..need internet for that too. so, even if you do get it, what's the point? at the rates they will charge you, you won't get any real use out of it. Source(s): blackberry owner, lived in mexico Other Travel Tips Hmmm, I have a friend with a Verizon phone from Gringolandia and it works. If I were you I would go to the Telcel office nearest you (the service center) and ask them the hypothetical question. USAcel might be able to help also. Where do you live? I'm from Chicago, living in Toluca. Goo Luck, Rob Mexico has the highest costs of telephone service for business and international residential calls, and the highest cost of broadband internet for businesses among the 30 countries in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. According to the New York Times, today, 9 out of 10 telephone lines in Mexico are operated by Telmex. The mobile company, Telcel, which Carlos Slim Hel煤 also controls, operates almost 80 percent of all the country's cellphones. High costs of telecommunications, electricity, etc have caused an erosion of Mexico's competitiveness compared with Asian and European countries, leaving growth of per capita income lagging behind them. In the latest Fortune survey, Carlos Slim Helu was the third richest man in the world. Last year he made more money than Bill Gates and Warren Buffet combined. I know this didn't answer your question but it may help you to understand the difficulties you are having. |
