Presciptions Drugs in Mexico......?????

Travel Info
im going on a cruise to mexico and someone told me that you can get prescription drugs over the counter there? anyone bought any from there....do you have to have a "prescription"? could i just bring my prescrition bottle with my name on it??HELP!!

Travel Tips
no....it's not like that. and your prescription bottle is in english. name brand drugs have the same name, like, "advil" is still "advil" in spanish. but tetrocyclene isn't. it took me weeks for someone to realize i just wanted neosporine! (or possibly my fault for not being fluent in spanish.)

when people say this, they mean you can buy certain things that are normally prescription here, over the couner in mexico. such as viagra, birth control, general anitbiotics, mild anitidepresants, allergy meds, etc.. but you have to know what you need, and how to ask for it. and no, you don't need a prescription...because they ARE over the counter. but because these are over the counter, mexicans know how to take them and they understand the uses, and they often consult a dr. before purchasing. so don't just go crazy buying drugs when you don't totally know what you are buying or how much you should take.

you know how we are now able to buy things like allergy meds over the counter, here in the US? well...mexico is just a little more advanced than us...it's because they have universal health care and making things over the counter eases the burden, cost, and work load of the national health care system.

also, just so you know, you aren't allowed to bring in ANY type of drug into the US without a US Dr's prescription. meaning...if you bought buscapina in mexico (sort of like a midol) then you'd have to toss it before you got back to the US...not that i've ever actually done that, or been searched.

What are you trying to buy? Certain places you need a prescription..They wont give you the bottle back with your name on it..(I dont think so)...I have bought albuterol from there for my asthma...with out a prescription....
Many prescription drugs are available over the counter in Mexico, with the exception of those which are on the US schedule one like Oxycontin, Valium, uppers and downers etc. Check with your own pharmacist for the name of the meds you want, many of them are the same in Mexico. Many Mexican pharmacies post the drug names that you can and can't have.
No, you can buy stuff without a prescription, just bring the bottle and explain, that's it
You need a prescription from your doctor for some drugs and they will fill it. Some drugs require a prescription in the US but are sold over the counter in Mexico. No need for prescription. It really depends.

I don't think the bottle will help but you can try.

Good Luck
