Vacation in Mexico. An infant car seat question.? |
Travel Info We are plannig a vacation in Mexico with our 2 year old. We will take a taxi from the airport to the resort where we are staying. What should we do about the car seat (we don't want to bring it with us). Does anybody have experiance with that? Can you request a taxi with a car seat in Mexico? Travel Tips Here in Mexico you see three people on a motor scooter, the father, mother and a few month old baby or even 3 years old and the mother on the same motorbike or scooter. You see this in Iran too. Life is cheap. It is not illegal to drive and hold a child at the same time, and of course a cel phone going too. No one cares, except the gawking foreigners. So a car seat for a child......don't be funny! You may use one but of course it is not mandatory. Source(s): Live there, see it all the time. Other Travel Tips you do not need a car seat. My family lives there and I was just there. Unfortunately their laws aren't as strict as ours. Just hold on to him and be cautious of your surroundings while the driver is driving. In case anything were to happen, you'd know how to protect him. You won't find a taxi with a car seat in Mexico. If you really want to use one, take it with you. I live here and I have never seen a taxi with a car seat and seldom see a car with one. Car seats do exist in Mexico but they are few and far between. I have seen as many as 25 people riding in the back of a pickup truck at high speed. Safety is not a big concern here. yup, i agree with everyone here. no taxis with carseats. and if you brought your own, i think the taxi driver would look at you like you were crazy for asking to set up the car seat in the taxi. come to think of it...i have never actually seen a carseat in mexico...although i'm sure those with babies have them. fortunately, most airports in beach towns are very close to the hotels, and you shouldn't be in the taxi for more than a a few moments. also, mexico does not have the types of freeways we have in the US and you should not be going that fast. although if you've never been there...the driving will make you nervous. Will your child have a car seat on the plane or will you hold him/her in your lap? If you use one on the plane, use it in the cab. If no, than just hold him/her in the cab. I have never seen a carseat in Mexico. I don't even think they have seat belts in their cabs. Have a great trip |
