Does a american need a passport to travel by land into mexico? |
Travel Info Does a american need a passport to travel by land into mexico? Travel Tips Until Jan 2008 or later, no. Here is reference to back up that answer: http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbp... You DO need proof of citizenship to re-enter the U.S., but for now that can be a birth certificate. (travel by land and sea only .. passports needed for ALL travel by air) Others No, that does not start until Jan '08 no no, just to get out yes. No not going there, however coming back you will need one. Somebody said Jan 08. . .wrong, you need it NOW and for a very good reason No - you can LEAVE the country without a passport. BUT - if you want to come back in - YOU BETTER HAVE IT - the rules have changed. It used to be you only needed your driver's license. With the beefed up DHS rules, you need a passport to cross back into the country. Otherwise, hook up with some illegal immigrants crossing the border in Texas or something and make a run for it back into the US. Better be quick, if they catch you, they will deport you back to Mexico! |
