REQUIRED passport for mexico?? |
Travel Info Me and a couple buddies plan NOT to fly, but park our car at san diego, and take the bus across the border into TJ. To come back to the US, do i need a passport?? no right?? all i have is my dirvers licence and Social Security Card. Thanks... Travel Tips You will be fine with your photoID driver's license taking a bus to Mexico. Sounds like an excellent plan. Have a great trip Others You need a birth certificate, and a drivers license. It appears that you may be ok if your are going by bus- from the US State Dept website: "Beginning January 23, 2007, ALL persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling by AIR between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda will be required to present a valid passport, Air NEXUS card, or U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Document, or an Alien Registration Card, Form I-551, if applicable." The above rule applies only for air travel, the rule for going by ground or ferry does not take effect until Jan 1 2008 at the earliest, and even then is still a maybe. Again, from the US State Dept: "As early as January 1, 2008, ALL persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda by land or sea (including ferries), may be required to present a valid passport or other documents as determined by the Department of Homeland Security. While recent legislative changes permit a later deadline, the Departments of State and Homeland Security are working to meet all requirements as soon as possible. Ample advance notice will be provided to enable the public to obtain passports or passport cards for land/sea entries." http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbp... you may not need a passport but it would be a really good idea to bring it as you should have no problem going across to mexico, but coming back will be a ***** without a passport, so i would suggest getting one or you might be asking how to get a U.S. passport in mexico next lol No ... Heres the info from the website ... Beginning January 23, 2007, ALL persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling by air between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda will be required to present a valid passport, Air NEXUS card, or U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Document, or an Alien Registration Card, Form I-551, if applicable.
