Do you need a passport to drive back into CA from Tijuana?

Travel Info
Ive heard a lot of diffrent answers. If anyone knows the correct one please let me know.

Travel Tips
I live in TJ and go to CA a few times a week....

Passports are better- it gets you through faster, with fewer questions or hassles.

They do accept a license and a birth certificate together (just did it this week- passport was not on me). More questions, more hassle, but you can get in.

You will need a p'prt by 2008 for land crossings. Source(s): I live here, crossed Yesterday without a p'port- will cross tomorrow with one.
Other Travel Tips
This is when you do and don't need a passport; eventually you'll need one, so you may want to start the process, takes 6-8 weeks on average but can be expedited.

**********

If you're flying... yes, no exceptions.

If you're driving... no (but you will in 2008)

If you're going by cruise/boat... no (but you will in 2008)
Yup.. It's new, but anytime you leave this country, even to Mexico, you now need a valid passport... An identification card or birth certificate wont work.
Like the first person said - you do not need a passport if traveling by sea or land. You can call the toll-free passport office near you. It is on thier recording.
You do not need one. But you do need your I.D and social security card. Have Fun 鈽?
