What to visit near Xpu-Ha (Riviera Maya)? |
Travel Info We'll be a week at Xpu-Ha, 20 minutes south Playa del Carmen and want to visit XCaret. Playa del Carmen and Tulum, are they worth it ? Any suggestion to discover more than crowd of tourist usually do ? (Habla un pouco Castellano) Thank you, merci, Gracias :) Travel Tips I went to playa del carmen one year ago and have been to Tulum after the hurricane. It was still great. It was really something different to see and had a prehistoric feel especially with all the iguanas all over. If you are looking something a little less crowded, I recommend catching a bus or renting a car to porto moreles and talking to one of the locals to take you out snorkeling. My girlfriend and I had a boat just to our selves and our spanish speaking guide through the reef. It was maybe a bit spontaneous or more risky, but it ended up great. Also if you go to Cozumel, make a deal with one of the taxi drivers to spend a couple hours to drive you around the island. We got there late in the day when all the shops were closing, but our taxi driver took us to some cool sunset spots. It was a good opportunity to practice my spanish too. Have fun and enjoy Mexico! Others The beach at Tulum was fantastic when I was there in July '05 not sure since hurricane damage. Visited all the ruins - it was great. Playa Del Carmen was good for shopping - take the ferry to Cozumel also. If you are into nature they are sure worth it...beaches are beautiful and the sea is clear and transparent.
