Have you driven from the US to Mexico City? |
Travel Info If so what was it like, did you encounter any difficulties? Travel Tips The biggest problem I had was crossing the border to Mexico. I drove around the 4th of July holiday and there was a huge line processing the permits to drive into Mexico. It took me over 4 hours to obtain the permit. I did not realize I could have obtained the permit in the consulate of my city or that the border was open 24 hours and I could have processed the permit in the middle of the night. Others it was great and i didn't have any problems at all. No, but I did walk from John `O Groats to Lands End for charity - and I was glad when it was finished :-) The drive itself can be long. Pace yourself. Don't, DO NOT, drive at night. Watch for the speed bumps; they aren't always marked. Guard against gasoline attendant bill-swap scams. Expect to be stopped and subjected to vehicle search at military checkpoints and arbitrary police stops, especially if your vehicle shows a U.S. license plate. Pick a convenient border crossing (i.e. Nogales). From Nogales to Mexico City, much of the freeway is 2 lanes in each direction. Speaking from the experience of 6 road trips into and around Mexico and Belize over the past 3 years. |
