Need some idea's on fun things to do in Tulum!!!!? |
Travel Info My soon to be husband and I are going to Tulum this July on our honeymoon. We are staying at Dreams. I am looking for some advice on things to see, do, and watch out for. We have never been to Mexico and are very excited. The reason we chose Tulum was to see the ruins but want to take full advantage of this oppertunity. We are on a humble budget and are not really into water sports. We do like seeing the sights especialy old or unusual and the night life. Any ideas? Travel Tips My wife and I stayed at the Dreams resort before they did the expansion when it was called the Sunscape Tulum. It was one of my favorite resorts. I don't know if they still do it but as I guy - I loved that they showed Monday Night Football on a projection screen on the beach! Other nights they did movies plus they have shows and stuff to but I really loved watching football on the beach with a nacho bar and all you can drink corona (pretty much man heaven, I think). The staff were really great, the spa services were good but not all that cheap but since you are on your honeymoon splash out and both get massages on the beach (or something similar that you can do together). To keep to your budget, don't taxi to Playa Del Carmen or Tulum always take the colectivo, it's only a few dollars. You just need to walk to the road and flag down one of the white mini vans. It's kind of like a shared taxi. For the ruins at Tulum, the resort is close enough that you can ride a bicycle to them. Every morning the resort activities people would lead a bike tour down to the ruins free of charge. You still need to pay admission to the ruins and a buck for someone to watch your bike but it's pretty cheap. Consider splitting a guide with a few in your group if you are interested in ruins. Also, If you want to see more ruins, consider renting a car for a day. It may be cheaper than bus tours. If you take the road from Tulum to Valladolid, about half way is the ruins of Coba. If you continue on to Valladolid and take the road north towards Tizimin you can see Ek Balam too. Both are much larger than Tulum. You could drive to Chichen Itza too but that's about 3 hours away and you'd need to take the toll road which in itself is pretty pricey. I'm not saying to rule out Chichen Itza but it's your honeymoon and I'm sure that there are limits on how much time you are going to spend looking at ruins. Also, not too far south of Tulum are the ruins of Muyil. I haven't been to that one yet but I know it's fairly close. Here's a map if you want to consider the driving: http://www.maps-of-mexico.com/quintana-r... Also, cenotes are pretty amazing there are many tours in the area that offer cenote diving, swimming or snorkeling. Here's one to consider: http://hiddenworlds.com.mx/cavern.html..... http://hiddenworlds.com.mx Here is a German fellow who I sometimes see answer question here - if I remember correctly he works as a dive guide in the area and he really seems to know what he's talking about. Hopefully he will stop by and answer to give you a bit more insight into dive and snorkeling options in the area. Feel free to email me if you want, I'll do my best to answer questions, especially about ruins. Others Tulum,.....Honey you are on budget cuz I never heard of it,...just ask the concierge when you first get there, he willl give you some flyers, after you come up for air, go to him and tell him the things you want to do, and the time you have there, go for a breakfast and a walk when you come back he will have it all set up. Thats what a concierge does,......... But i dont mean to get into your biz, but do a lot of beroom sports, because the fire is hotter when your out of the same o'l kitchen lol Happy Honeymoon I'm from Mexico and my favorite place is TULUM i recommend you take a tour you can ask in your hotel or search things to do in tulum in GOOGLE CONGRATS!!! AND HAPPY MARRIAGE The beach below the Tulum ruins is awesome. Bring a towel when U visit the ruins so you can enjoy the beach too. The Gringo community of Paamul is on the road to Playa del Carmen. It has a super beach, restaurant & bar. Just tell the guard at the gate that you are going to the restaurant & they won't charge you. You can take a bus from Tulum to Paamul all day long. i used to live here |
