I want to visit Mexico for a vacation/honeymoon next year. I would like to visit the Mayan and Aztec Ruins...

Travel Info
I am worried about how to go about planning such a vacation. It's my first out-of-the-country vacation. I would like to have everything planned out or worked out to where we would have tours, hiking, even check out some nightlife. There are a thousand sites that feature travel planning but I want to know from people who have vacationed in Mexico recently. How much does a 5-7 day vacation cost in a 4 star hotel with tours and meals paid for? What are the best cities to see the best ruins and acheological sites?

Any recommendations?

Travel Tips
Here is an excellent resource which offers you both the Mayan and Aztec ruins, great hotels, meals and everything you could hope for in 8 days for $995 per person. The price is all inclusive but DOES NOT include airfare to/from but does offer you a toll free phone to call and discuss.

This should make it easier for you to get exactly what you asked for.........

There are tours to Teotihuac谩n (Aztec) and Chich茅n Itza (Mayan). Teotihuac谩n is about an hour's ride outside of Mexico City. Inside Mexico City, there is also the Templo Mayor (Aztec) in the Historical District. Chich茅n Itza is very far from Mexico City. You'd probably want to fly in through Mexico City, spend a few days there, then fly to M茅rida (near Chich茅n Itza), spend a few days there, then fly home. (or do it in the reverse order).

It sounds to me that your best bet would be to go to a travel agent. They have packages that include meals and tours. They can put something together, so you can enjoy your honeymoon and not spend the time worrying about it. They can worry about flying you in through one city, getting you to the next city, then flying you home. They can also give you an idea of costs, and adjust things to fit your budget. If you're getting married soon, it will be one less headache to worry about!
u can go to the shops like the one they have outside
I think it would be hard to see both Aztec and Mayan ruins in 5-7 days. Plus have time for honeymoon stuff and night life.

I haven't personally done a packaged tour but I do know about this one:

The prices are listed there but including airfare (return from Canada)/accommodation/food and drinks the deluxe package is about $2,500 CND per person for 8 days. I'm sure it would be possible to find it cheaper once you were there through a local company so hopefully someone will be able to recommend something.

Best city to use as a base to see Mayan Ruins is Merida, that puts you with in easy reach of many impressive ruins. Plus, Merida is a very nice city in it's own right and it has many cultural events and a great Museum of Anthropology if you are interested in pre-columbian stuff.

Here's some distances from Merida to various ruins:

Dzibilchaltun: 14 miles (the ruins here are ok, the museum is good)
X'cambo: 38 miles (small, Id give this one a miss unless you wanted to also go see the gulf coast and flamingos or something)
Izamal: 44 miles (Cool site, some ruins but great colonial buildings including the Franciscan mission built on the base of a Mayan temple)
Uxmal: 50 miles (Very impressive)
Kabah: 63 miles (Smaller but neat)
Loltun: 70 miles (Caves with some artifacts and Maya cave art, haven't personally been)
Chichen Itza: 75 miles (Very impressive)
Ek Balam: 123 miles
Cancun: 199 miles (El Ray Ruins, not much to see for ruins but might help you with the nightlife/honeymoon part)
Playa del Carmen: 240 miles (Again, not much to see for ruins but might help you with the nightlife/honeymoon part)
Coba: 250 miles est. (Not exactly sure how far but it's on the road between Valladolid and Tulum. Large site not many of the buildings are restored great view from the tops of the temples)
Tulum: 296 miles (Smaller ruins but great site, almost always busy, great beach)
Palenque: 346 miles (Haven't personally been there yet, hopefully this year)

Sorry I can't help with the Aztec stuff, I haven't found my way there yet myself.

Edit: Nice one pjallittle. You get a thumbs up from me for that link.
