Passport for Mexico?

Travel Info
I have a trip planned to Mexico in less than a month, I'm a legal permanent resident of the US and have been told I can just use my residency card ("green card") and my driver's license to enter Mexico. I've also been told by others that since I'm technically still a Mexican citizen I have to get a Mexican passport to enter Mexico.

I'm confused, I thought I had it all figured out. I also read about this FM-T form which gets filled out in minutes in the Mexican consulate. Anybody with experience on this? I'm just covering my bases.

Lastly to reenter the US also all I need is my residency/green card and my driver's license right? I don't have a passport, but I hear, from the same people who are confusing me, that the passport rule only applies to US Citizens.

Please help.

Travel Tips
you can use your birth cert which proves you are a mexican citizen (along with your drivers license to prove it's you).

and ONLY US citizens need a passport.

Beginning January 23, 2007, ALL persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling by air between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda will be required to present a valid passport, Air NEXUS card, or U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Document, or an Alien Registration Card, Form I-551, if applicable.

As early as January 1, 2008, ALL persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda by land or sea (including ferries), may be required to present a valid passport or other documents as determined by the Department of Homeland Security. While recent legislative changes permit a later deadline, the Departments of State and Homeland Security are working to meet all requirements as soon as possible. Ample advance notice will be provided to enable the public to obtain passports or passport cards for land/sea entries.
The passport requirement does NOT apply to U.S. citizens traveling to or returning directly from a U.S. territory. U.S. citizens returning directly from a U.S. territory are not considered to have left the United States and do not need to present a passport. U.S. territories include the following: Guam, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Swains Island, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.

Hi, I麓m from Mexico City, and I was just reading in an on-line newspaper that US has just eliminated the request of a passport to US citizens to travel to Mexico, Canada, Caribbean and Bermuda. This is a newspaper version, is a well recognized newspaper, but search in the web to confirm this version. Greetings
By law, every Mexican citizen needs a passport to enter or leave Mexican territory. Sometimes exceptions are made (like during winter vacations when a lot of immigrants return home) and other proofs of nationality are accepted. You can check with the consulate or go to the Foreign Relations Ministry webpage www.sre.gob.mx, you can also e-mail them with specific questions regarding passports at pasaportes@sre.gob.mx
