Is it safe to travel to Mexico right now? |
Travel Info Do you know anything about what's going on in Oaxaca or San Cristobal de las Casas? Travel Tips Yes it's SAFE don't worry you don't believe all I'm from Mexico and never to mug also Mexico is really beautiful (people,places,beaches,nightcl... good luck Others It's not really safe overall, however there are areas where you would be OK. The drug cartels and Mexican army are in open warfare. This use to only be in the boarder regions, however it has spilled out all over the country. Many places that were perfectly safe no longer are. Tourists are still pretty safe unless you are in Mexico City or the boarder towns, however with so much violence all over the country you just never know. Of course you are still in danger the most from the local police, that hasn't changed at all. not really Mexico is dangerous right now not like before and the anti american sentiment is high seems like the popular thing in other countries to hate americans , anyway, no mexico isnt safe the kidnappings are up, the drug wars are raging and the government is basically at war with the drug lords best wait a couple of years The uproar in Oaxaca has calmed down since last fall, and Mexico in general is a very safe place to travel. We went to Oaxaca and Mexico City recently and had a great time. Just use the same precautions you would use anywhere (don't walk down dark roads by yourself at nite,etc...). Fodor's message board is a great resource for travel questions, here is a link to the Latin America thred: http://www.fodors.com/forums/threadselec... Right now it's all clear. There were disturbances about a year back but its been put down. In San Cristobal everything looks good but always beware of the drug cartel war happening right now. in Oaxaca it has last been calm, although the union of teachers and social organizations glides to boycott the Guelaguetza which caused the suspension of some festejos, but this began as of the next month, if you want to travel you must do it soon, since also votings for deputies in August approach, which caused political manifestations in the capital, in any case the conflict is between oaxaque帽os, the tourists happen unnoticed unless they participate in protests, greetings. no soy muy bueno en ingles, por si sabes espa帽ol: en Oaxaca ha estado tranquilo ultimamente, aunque el sindicato de maestros y organizaciones sociales planean boicotear la Guelaguetza lo que provocara la suspension de algunos festejos , pero esto empezara a partir del proximo mes, si quieres viajar debes hacerlo pronto, ya que tambien se acercan votaciones para diputados en agosto, lo que provocara manifestaciones politicas en la capital, de todas formas el conflicto es entre oaxaque帽os, los turistas pasan desapercibidos a menos que participen en protestas, saludos. (si hablas espa帽ol mandame un mail y te informo mejor) I live in Oaxaca. |
