Travel Tips
The city and state of Oaxaca are renowned for their history and culture. Personally, I found the city to be a bit of a let down, although there is much natural beauty in the state (including incredible mountains and fantastic beaches - non-touristy).

Central Mexico has many beautiful and historical sites. My vote for most beautiful city in Mexico goes to Guanajuato. It was also important during the Mexican Revolution (of 1810) and Independence. It is also the birthplace of Diego Rivera - his childhood home is interesting.

Zacatecas is also beautiful and has several great art museums (on par with those in New York and other major cities).

I haven't been to Guadalajara, but it's supposed to be one of the most authentic and beautiful cities in Mexico.

Then, of course, there's San Miguel de Allende. It's a smaller city, historically preserved to colonial times, and undeniably charming. There are lots of cultural activities to choose from. The jard铆n is one of my very favorite spots for people-watching in the whole world. However, be prepared for muchismos gringos.

Viva M茅xico and have a great time exploring! Source(s): He pasado mucho tiempo en M茅xico.
Other Travel Tips
cross the border at texas. it will give you some real mexican insight and scare the hell outta you. been there. done that. never gonna do it again. you want authentic? go there- i crossed at padre island. HUGE mistake.
Tour the Mayan Ruins in the Yucatan.
Any colonial city-Guanajuato, San Miguel de Allende, Morelia. Go see the ruins of Teotihuac谩n about an hour north of Mexico City. In Mexico City, there is the Anthropology Museum, the ruins at the Templo Mayor, the Z贸calo, etc. North of Mexico City, there is the Plaza de las Tres Culturas, and the Our Lady of Guadalupe Basilica.
Been there, done that.
